About
Anna Lilleengen uses traditional photographic techniques to explore the tension between the transience of the physical vs. the perceived permanence of culture, spirit and memory. Her work often centres around a notion of boundaries / no boundaries.
Her No Horizon series (2015) of medium-format analogue photographs, explores the liminal space of boundaries: between sky and sea, Scandinavia and England, between certainty and uncertainty.
Referencing the photographs of contemporary Japanese photographer Hiroshi Sugimoto, she asks, in the absence of external moral authority and where there is no clear dividing line to relate to, how do you locate and navigate moral (un)certainty?
